Under the theme “DESIGN REAL,” the 2026 edition proposes a deliberate shift in how design is approached: less formal speculation and greater commitment to the material, social, and environmental conditions shaping the present.
Far from a trade fair model, the event unfolds as a network of active nodes including exhibitions, talks, interventions, and open studios that turn Berlin into a working laboratory. Within this framework, designers, architects, researchers, and brands engage with a shared question: what does it mean to produce design today in a context shaped by systemic crises?

The program foregrounds practices that address sustainability from a critical perspective, exploring materials, processes, and production models that aim to move beyond the merely declarative. In this context, initiatives such as the Berlin Design Nights reinforce the festival’s openness, blurring the boundaries between production and exhibition. More than a celebration, Berlin Design Week positions itself as a space of friction where design is tested, reexamined, and projected toward possible futures, not from promise but from practice.
Berlin Design Week 2026 will take place from May 28 to May 31, 2026.
