Cannes 2026: Everything to Know Ahead of the Official Selection Announcement

With only a few days to go before the official announcement of the films selected for the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival, several titles are already emerging as possible candidates for the prestigious Palme d’Or competition. Among the European films are Bitter Christmas (Amarga Navidad) by Pedro Almodóvar (Spain), Fjord by Cristian Mungiu (Romania), Fatherland by Paweł Pawlikowski (Poland), Out of This World by Albert Serra (Spain), Coward by Lukas Dhont (Belgium), Minotaur by Andrey Zvyagintsev (Russia), and The Beloved (El ser querido) by Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Spain).
From Asia, notable titles include Hope by Na Hong-jin (South Korea), Soudain (All of a Sudden) by Ryusuke Hamaguchi (Japan), Sheep in the Box / Look Back by Hirokazu Kore-eda (Japan), and Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo by Takashi Miike (Japan).

On the international front, titles such as Her Private Hell by Nicolas Winding Refn (Denmark/USA), Paper Tiger by James Gray (USA), Jack of Spades by Joel Coen (USA), and The Way of the Wind by Terrence Malick (USA) are also circulating, along with more uncertain projects such as Parallel Tales by Asghar Farhadi (Iran/France) and Disclosure Day by Steven Spielberg (USA).
While none of these titles has been officially confirmed, all are part of the speculation surrounding the festival’s lineup, which will be fully revealed on
April 9.
